Jalaluddin Rumi was a humanitarian, spiritual poet: Dipu Moni

 

DHAKA, Sept 2, 2022 (BSS) - Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni today said Jalaluddin Rumi, the thirteenth-century Persian poet, was a humanitarian, world's greatest spiritual poet and a philosopher.

"Rumi, known as 'The Messenger of Love and Wisdom', inscribed the incomparable virtue of compassion, responsibility and love for one another among the people of the very unstable and turbulent societies of 13th century and brought out a new philosophy for peace loving people," said Dr Dipu Moni.

The minister made the remarks while inaugurating an international conference titled 'International Rumi conference-2022' at Dhaka University's Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the campus with DU Vice Chancellor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman in the chair.
 
Dipu Moni said Rumi conveyed the message of love, inter-religious harmony, religious values and humanitarian service throughout his creations to build an enlightened society.

The education minister urged the teachers and academicians to conduct more fundamental research activities on the world-famous poet Jalaluddin Rumi as well as on Syed Ahmadul Haque, known as Banglar Rumi.

Vice-president of Allama Rumi Society Bangladesh Syed Rezaul Karim, Advisor Syed Mahmudul Haque, Calcutta University professor Dr Amit Dey, Convener of the conference Dr KM Saiful Islam Khan and Chairperson of Persian Language and Literature Professor Dr Mohammad Bahauddin, among others, also addressed on the occasion.
 
DU Persian language and literature and Allama Rumi Society Bangladesh organised the conference with the theme 'Rumi's Philosophy for a society of love, peace and humanity' on the occasion of centenary celebration of the department of Persian language and literature and 11th death anniversary of Syed Ahmadul Haq, known as 'Banglar Rumi'.
 
A total of 28 researchers from seven countries will deliver their presentation on Jalaluddin Rumi, the thirteenth-century Persian poet, in eight academic sessions of the international conference.

Academics and researchers from seven countries-India, Iran, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Syria, Afghanistan and Bangladesh will participate in the conference in eight different venues.
