DHAKA, Aug 24, 2022 (BSS) - A court here today accepted charge-sheet filed against Iftekhar Abedin in a case lodged over unnatural death of his wife and Dhaka University (DU) student Elma Chowdhury alias Meghla.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Abubakar Siddique passed the order as victim's father gave no objection to the charge-sheet filed by the investigation agency, Detective Branch (DB) of police.

The court, however, dropped names of Iftekhar's father Lt Col (Retd) Md Amin and mother Shirin Amin from the accused list, accepting a plea of DB. The court also sent the case documents to Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate as it is now ready to hold the trial.

Investigation officer and DB inspector Qazi Shariful Islam filed the charge-sheet on May 31 against Iftekhar Abedin for inciting Meghla to commit suicide.

According to the charge-sheet, on the day of her death, Meghla wanted to go out, but Iftekhar barred her from going and locked her in room after scolding and physically abusing her. At one stage, Meghla committed suicide inside the room.
