DHAKA, Aug 8, 2022 (BSS) – Speakers at a workshop have urged the concerned authorities to preserve country's world heritage sites by maintaining UNESCO guidelines for future generations.
They, however, underscored the need for conducting proper research and taking initiatives for the conservation of the heritage establishments of the country.
The speakers made these remarks at the closing ceremony of a 10-day workshop titled ‘Resilience and Re-Mobilization towards World Heritage’ recently held at the Department of Archaeology, a press release said here today.
Chaired by Director General (DG) of the Archeology Departmentl Ratan Chandra Pandit, former chief architect of Housing and Public Works Department ASM Aminur Rahman, cinematographer and architect Masiuddin Saker, Bangladesh Bauddha Kristi Prachar Sangha Vice President Bhante Swarupananda Bhikkhu and UNESCO (Dhaka) programme officer (culture) Kizzy Tahnin spoke on the occasion, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Ratan Chandra Pandit emphasized on the importance of the proper preservation of Paharpur Bouddha Bihar and other heritage buildings.
He also called for inclusion of archeological educational in the curriculum from the school level to create awareness about the cultural significance of these traditional establishments.
Nagar Upakkhyan- Persive, a research organization and One Culture Foundation jointly organize the workshop under the UNESCO World Heritage Volunteers (WHV) Campaign 2022.
The theme of the program was “Mindfulness Practice in Heritage Conservation at the Ruins of Buddhist Bihara at Paharpur in Bogura.”
Every year, around the globe, UNESCO organizes the World Heritage Volunteer Program to create awareness about the world heritage.
This year, a total of 44 organizations from 29 countries across the world are conducting this campaign, Persive was selected in Bangladesh to arrange it.
