
DHAKA, July 25, 2022 (BSS) - Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul
Quader today paid to seven Japanese nationals who were killed in the Holey
Artisan Bakery attack in Gulshan area on July 1, 2016.
The seven Japanese nationals were consultants working on the Japanese
government development project Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit in Bangladesh.
Quader, also awami league general secretary, placed wreaths at the newly-
built monument at metro rail depot in Uttara Diabari area this morning.
Five militants took hostages and opened fire on the Holey Artisan Bakery in
Gulshan, killing 22 people including 17 foreigners and two police officers on
July 1, 2016.
Later, two more wounded persons died at hospital as at least 30 police
personnel were injured in the attack.
The horrific event ended when the attackers were neutralized by commandoes
and remaining 13 people rescued alive.
Quader said world community lost Mass Rapid Transit experts at the death of
the seven Japanese.
Bangladesh government kept continued its zero tolerance policy against
terrorism as it took all-out measures to curb terrorism and violence, he
mentioned.
Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) President Tanaka Akihiko, Japan
Foreign Ministry Vice-Minister Honda Taro, Japanese Ambassador in Dhaka Ito
Naoki, Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Ministry Senior Secretary Masud Bin Momen,
Metro-Rail Project Managing Director MAN Siddique, Road Transport and
Highways Division Secretary ABM Amin Ullah Nuri and Finance Ministry Economic
Relations Division Secretary Sarifa Khan also spoke on the occasion.
