Accreditation Council to start activities Wednesday

DHAKA, July 18, 2022 (BSS) - Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC) is going 
to start its accreditation process from Wednesday (July 20) aiming at 
ensuring the quality of the higher education in the country.

"Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni will address a conference on 'Accreditation 
in Higher Education' and launch the accreditation process for the country's 
higher education institutions at 9:30am at International Mother Language 
Institute here," BAC Chairman Professor Dr Mesbahuddin Ahmed said. 

He said this while addressing a press conference at Nasrul Hamid Auditorium 
in the Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) here today.

Emeritus Professor of Massey University, New Zealand Dr Tim J Parkins will 
present the keynote paper titled 'the Importance and Significance of 
accreditation in Higher Education' in the conference, the BAC chairman added.

Dr Mesbahuddin said the BAC has started its activities to provide 
accreditation to academic programmes being conducted in higher educational 
institutions to ensure the robust and dignified position of Bangladeshi 
graduates in the competitive world.

A total of 5,435 trainees have participated in 119 training workshops 
organized by the council in the previous years with an aim of motivating the 
stakeholders regarding the accreditation process and increasing the capacity 
of the stakeholders in ensuring the quality of higher education, he added.

Noting that the BAC has already prepared rules and regulations maintaining 
international standards to fulfill the objectives of the Bangladesh 
Accreditation Council Act, 2017, the BAC chairman said the council will 
follow the appropriate accreditation procedure considering the context and 
socio-economic condition of Bangladesh in the light of developed countries 
after consultation with local and foreign experts.

The continuation of the accreditation process in higher education continues 
would usher a revolutionary change in quality assurance of higher education 
in Bangladesh, he said, adding that the council has already selected thirty 
Quality Assurance (QA) professionals for carrying out the activates.

BAC members Professor Dr Md Golam Shahi Alam, Professor Dr Sanjoy Kumar 
Adhikary and Professor Dr SM Kabir, and Secretary Professor AKM Monirul Islam 
were present at the press conference, among others.

According to the BAC officials, the council will accredit academic programmes 
and higher education institutions for quality assurance in the country's 
higher education.
