DHAKA, July 15, 2022 (BSS) - A Dhaka court has sent to jail a driver of a 
garbage truck of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) in a case lodged over 
the death of a motorcyclist after getting hit by the vehicle.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Atiqul Islam passed the order yesterday 
evening, as police produced the accused driver Abdus Salam before the court 
and pleaded to keep him behind the bars till the conclusion of probe in the 
case. 

Salam's counsel, however, pleaded for his bail. The court also set July 20 
for holding hearing on the bail plea.

Victim Sabbir Ahmed Rocky, 23, stopped his motorcycle in front of main gate 
of the Police Staff College in Mirpur 13 around 4.30 pm on July 13. A few 
moments later, the speeding garbage truck hit him from behind in the area, 
leaving him seriously injured. 

The onlookers rushed Sabbir to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and 
Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a little later.

In the meantime, Salam, driver of the garbage truck, tried to escape the 
scene but locals managed to catch him and handed him over to police.

Sabbir's father filed the case with Kafrul Police Station in this regard.
