The Awami League leader said the Padma Bridge will change the economic landscape of southwestern Bangladesh and it will connect many countries of South and Southeast Asia and contribute to communication, trade, industry, tourism and many other sectors in various ways.
He said once the bridge is inaugurated, the volume of external trade will go up through the country’s ports located in its southwestern region.
Mongla and Payra seaports will be more operational after the opening of the Padma Bridge and Kuakata tourism spot will also be vibrant, Hanif added.
The bridge would also attract traders to invest in the southwestern region, he said, adding imports and exports will also increase.
The political leader said that the Padma Bridge is the largest construction infrastructure since the independence of Bangladesh initiated by the dynamic and visionary leader Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
According to Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA), China Major Bridge Engineering Company (MBEC) carried out the construction of the main bridge and the river management was done by Sino Hydro Corporation of China.
It said the construction work began in December, 2015 with the government’s own fund.
