Rajshahi city sees huge development with PM's support: Liton

RAJSHAHI, June 19, 2022 (BSS) - Rajshahi City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton has said they are taking forward the metropolis as many development activities have become visible with kind support of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

"The prime minister has approved a project worth around Taka 3,000 crore for development of the city," Liton said, while addressing a view-sharing meeting and dinner party here last night as the chief guest.

Rajshahi Union of Journalists (RUJ) hosted the function at Rajshahi Inn Hotel to mark the executive committee meeting of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) that was held at the same venue on Saturday.

Vice-chancellor of Rajshahi University Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar, BFUJ President Omar Faruque, Secretary General Dip Azad, its former President Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Abdul Jalil, Superintendent of Police Masud Hossain and Chairman of Rajshahi Education Board Prof Habibur Rahman also spoke with RUJ President Rafiqul Islam in the chair.

Liton said they are putting in their level best efforts to take the lag-behind Rajshahi region forward by elevating the socio-economic condition of the people.

"We are also trying to establish industries in the region for generating scopes of employment as there is a lack of industrialization," he said, seeking cooperation of BFUJ leaders in creating job opportunities.

Liton urged the pro-liberation war journalists to become united to meet their demands as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been implementing many benevolent programmes for welfare of the working journalists.

Stressing the need for promoting genuine journalism, he said unethical and yellow journalism is detrimental to national development. So, there is a need to ensure a clean image in this noble profession as the nation is going ahead successfully, he added.

Sharing their views, leaders of BFUJ and ten other unit leaders lauded the innovative role of Mayor Liton towards making the city green, beautiful and illuminated with colourful bulbs.
