DHAKA, May 31, 2022 (BSS) - State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today said uninterrupted and cost-effective power supply within shortest possible time is the main challenges of the government.

"Whatever the global situation...our goal is to keep people in a state of without any stretch," he said.

The state minister was addressing a discussion marking the golden jubilee of Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) as the chief guest at Bidyut Bhaban here.

Nasrul said new fuel is being added with fuel mix, while giant power plants are coming to the national grid, which will ensure cost-effective price of electricity.

Forum for Energy Reporters Bangladesh (FERB) and BPDB jointly organized the discussion.

The state minster said the hydrogen policy will be included in the integrated master plan, which will contribute to expansion of the clean energy.

"With Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's bold step and far-sighted decision, the country has successfully completed 100 percent electrification," he added.

Nasrul said, "Due to cent percent electrification and recognition of contribution to socioeconomic development in the Mujib Borsho, the power division was awarded the "Independence Award-2022" and earned the honour."

The government has set up a goal to generate 40 percent electricity from renewable energy sources by 2041, he said.

"Efforts are underway to increase the use of clean energy gradually, which will also reduce carbon emissions," Nasrul added.

BPDB Chairman Mahbubur Rahman delivered speech, while FERB Chairman Shamim Jahangir and executive director Rishan Nasrullah spoke on the occasion and highlighted FERB's realistic activities in the power and energy sector.
