Nasrul for ensuring cyber security of power sector under a policy

DHAKA, May 23, 2022 (BSS) - State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today called for formulation of a specific policy to ensure cyber security of power sector.

"External security and cyber security protocol is urgently needed to ensure security of the power sector," he told a workshop at Bidyut Bhaban as the chief guest.

Bangladesh Power Management Institute (BPMI) organized the workshop on "Cyber Security of Power Sector-Policy and Operational Perspective" with its rector Md Mohsin Chowdhury in the chair. 

The state minister said it is must to create awareness about cyber security.

"Use of information technology in power sector is increasing gradually," he said, adding, "It is necessary to bring various devices of system automation under online communication as possibility of cyber threat grew up. We have to strengthen our capacity along with building awareness to face the unexpected challenge."

Nasrul said early warning of cyber security threats, risks management and dealing with security threats, service security, information infrastructure security and cyber supply chain risk reduction, cyber research and development in security needs to be encouraged. 

Besides, institutionally more work on human resource development in the field of cyber security is necessary, he added.

KUET Professor Dr Kazi Md Rakibul Alam presented key-note paper on "Fundamental Features of Cyber Security," Managing Director of DESCO Kawsar Amir Ali gave speech on "Scope, Necessity and Policies of Cyber Security in Power Sector" and Chief Information Security Officer of Microsoft Musfiqur Rahman on "Cyber Security in Power Sector-Cyber Threats, Design, Implementation and Monitoring Defensive Zero Trust Architecture".

Power Secretary Md Habibur Rahman also spoke on the occasion.
