Ex-OC Pradip's wife bail denied, sent to jail upon surrender

CHATTOGRAM, May 23, 2022 (BSS)-A Chattogram Court today sent Chumki Karon, wife of suspended officer in charge (OC) Pradip Kumar Das, to jail in a graft case rejecting her bail petition.

Chumki surrendered before the court of Chattogram Divisional Special Judge Munshi Abdul Majid this morning seeking bail. The court however sent her to jail rejecting the bail petition after hearing both the sides, a lawyer of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) confirmed the mater to BSS.

The Court sources said Chumki was absconding after the case was filed. The court issued an arrest warrant against her. Her husband former OC of Takenaf Thana Pradip Kumar Das is also an accused in the same case.

Earlier, the special court indicted Pradip and his wife in the graft on December 15 in 2021 for illegally amassing wealth and ordered the authorities to issue an arrest warrant against Chumki.

Mohammad Reaz Uddin, Assistant Director of the ACC submitted the charge sheet to the Senior Special Judge’s Court here on July 28.

The ACC charged Pradip and Chumki with amassing more than Tk 23.5 million beyond known sources of income and money laundering. They also concealed information on the assets of Tk 4.9 million.
