Rahmat Ullah relieved of duties for paying tribute to Khandakar Mushtaq 

DHAKA, April 20, 2022 (BSS) - President of Dhaka University Teachers' Association (DUTA) and acting dean of Faculty of Law of DU Prof Md Rahmat Ullah has been relieved of all academic and administrative duties for paying tribute to Khandakar Mushtaq , one of the chief conspirators behind the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Rahmat Ullah has also been served a show cause notice asking to give explanation on the remarks he made at a discussion on Historic Mujibnagar Day on April 17 at university's TSC auditorium where he allegedly paid tribute to Bangabandhu's murderer Khandakar Mushtaq Ahmed.

The decision was taken today at an emergency syndicate meeting of the university, chaired by the university Vice-chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman, several syndicate members confirmed this to BSS.
 
Besides, a five-member probe body, headed by DU Pro-VC (Academic) ASM Maksud Kamal was also formed to investigate the matter.

However, on Monday Rahmat Ullah arranged a press conference at DU Club to clarify his stance and apologised for his remarks about Khandaker Mushtaque terming it "unintentional".

Prof Rahmat Ullah said, "If I said anything inadvertently while speaking at yesterday's meeting, it was a mistake. For this, I personally apologise."

Meanwhile, on the same day, leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) DU unit submitted a memorandum to DU VC Md Akhtaruzzaman protesting Professor Rahmat Ullah's remark and demanding academic punishment against him.
