DHAKA, April 13, 2022 (BSS) – Director General (DG) of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun today said there was no specific information on militant attacks centered on the Bengali New Year Pohela Baishakh.

“The RAB is ready to thwart any sabotage plan of the militants by increasing intelligence surveillance and monitoring in the cyber world. The commando team of RAB Special Force will be ready,” he told reporters after inspecting the overall security arrangements for the celebration of 'Baishakh-1429' Bangla New Year 'at Ramna Batamul in the capital.

Responding to a question, the director general said the RAB forces always ready to thwart any sort of criminal activity, adding, “We do not plan security only when sabotage occurs. We plan to prevent sabotage. RAB has stepped up surveillance and security. However, we do not have any specific information about the militant attacks in the New Year.”

The RAB has stepped up surveillance across the country to ensure overall security in the Bengali New Year.  Adequate RAB members will be deployed in different areas to strengthen security.

New Year celebrations are being organized at various places in Dhaka including Ramna Batmul, Dhaka University, Rabindra Sarobar, Shilpakala Academy, BICC Bhaban, Nazrul Academy, Uttara Math. Special measures have been taken by RAB to ensure security in those areas.

TSC, Shahbag and Suhrawardy Udyan and Ramna Batmul have been divided into Outer and Inner Perimeter. Adequate check posts, patrols and observation posts have been set up to ensure security.

Sweeping was completed by RAB Bomb Disposal Unit and Dog Squad at important places including Ramna Batmul, TSC and Fine Arts Institute.

There will be a RAB control room, Patrol team, Motorcycle Patrol, Foot Patrol, Boat Patrolling, Sea Sector, Vehicle Scanner, Observation Post, Observatory Post, for overall security during the New Year celebrations across the country.

In addition to conducting sweeping at various venues and important places, the RAB Bomb Disposal Unit will be on standby for any emergencies.

The commando team of RAB Special Force has been kept ready at all times to deal with any sabotage or attack. In addition, RAB Air Wing helicopters will be ready at all times in any situation.
  
Check posts will be set up on important roads in all metropolitan cities, district towns and upazilas.

The RAB DG said that RAB's cyber monitoring team is ready and vigilant so that no provocative or false information can be spread in the virtual world centered on the New Year.
