DHAKA, April 7, 2022 (BSS) - A Dhaka court has ordered to send Ashish Roy
Chowdhury alias Bottle Chowdhury, prime accused in actor Sohel Chowdhury
murder case, to jail in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
As he was produced before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court
today, the investigating officer of the case Sub-Inspector of Gulshan Police
Station Shamim Hossain appealed the court to keep him in jail till the
investigation is completed.
After the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Syed Mostafa Reza Noor
ordered him to be sent to jail.
Earlier, RAB personnel arrested him from city's Gulshan area in possession of
22 bottles of foreign liquor, 14 bottles of soda water, an iPad, credit cards
of 16 different banks, two iPhones and Tk two lakh in cash on Tuesday night.
Deputy Assistant Director of RAB-10, Jahangir Alam filed a case against
Ashish Chowdhury under the Narcotics Control Act on Wednesday night.
Sohel Chowdhury was shot dead in the city's Banani area on December 17, 1998.
Victim's brother Touhidul Islam Chowdhury filed a case with Gulshan police
station accusing several people including film producer and businessman Aziz
Mohammad 'Bhai'.
Other accused in the case are- Adnan Siddiqui, Trumps Club owner Bunty Islam,
businessman Aziz Mohammad 'Bhai', Tareq Saeed Mamun, Selim Khan, Harun Aur
Rashid Liton alias Boss Liton, Farooq Abbasi, Sanjidul Islam Emon and Ashish
Roy Chowdhury.
Later, police submitted a charge sheet on July 30, 1999.
On October 30, 2001, the Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge of
Dhaka framed charges against the accused. Two years later, the case was sent
to the No. 2 Speedy Trial Tribunal in Dhaka for speedy disposal.
The case has been pending in the High Court for 19 long years since 2003. The
process of taking evidence in the case started again when the last stay order
was revoked on February 27 this year.
