DHAKA, April 5, 2022 (BSS) - Election Commission (EC) Secretariat's Secretary 
Humayun Kabir Khandaker today said the election schedule of Cumilla City 
Corporation will be announced at the end of this month.

He informed it to the journalists after the first meeting of the commission 
chaired by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal held at 
Nirbachan Bhaban in city's Agargaon area.

"The schedule for Cumilla City Corporation, Municipality and Union Parishad 
(UP) elections will be announced at the second meeting of the commission at 
the end of this month and elections will be held by June 20," he said.

He added that the polls will be held under electronic voting machine (EVM) 
system and preparations will be needed to this end, the commission has 
decided to hold the polls within June 20.

EC officials said the last election in the city was held on March 30, 2017 
and the first meeting was held on May 17 of the same year.

According to the law, the term of the elected city corporation is 5 years 
from the first meeting. 

So, the term of this city corporation will end on May 16 this year.
