Suspect Damal over AL leader Tipu murder case remanded

DHAKA, April 1, 2022 (BSS) - A court here today placed Arfan Ullah Damal, a suspect of killing former general secretary of Motijheel Awami League (AL) Jahidul Islam Tipu and college student Samia Afran Prity, on a one-day remand in an arms case.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Yasmin Ara passed the order as police produced Damal before the court and pleaded to place him on 10-day remand.

Police detained Damal from the capital's Kamalapur last night with a revolver. 

Later, a case was filed against him with Motijheel Police Station under the Arms Act. 

Tipu, who was on his microbus destined for his Khilgaon home, was shot dead by a masked assailant in the capital's Shahjahanpur area at the night of March 24 last.

A rickshaw passenger Samia Afran Prity was also got shot and died on the spot. 

Tipu's driver Munna got shot on his hand in the incident.

Tipu's wife Farhana Islam Dolly filed the case with Shahjahanpur Police station on March 25.

Members of Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Jahidul's main shooter Masum Mohammad alias Akash from Bogura.

During primary interrogation, Masum admitted that he killed Jahidul Islam Tipu.
