NAP to be implemented in integrated manner: Mannan

DHAKA, March 20, 2022 (BSS) - Planning Minister MA Mannan today said the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) would be implemented in a coordinated manner.
 
He said the people of Bangladesh have been used to to adaptation for a long time.

"Therefore, if we all work sincerely together, we will be successful in implementing the climate adaptation plan," he told a discussion.

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change arranged the meeting on 'Inclusion of National Adaptation Plan in Development Planning, Project Preparation and Implementation Process' at a city hotel, a ministry press release said.

Speaking as the chief guest, Mannan said his ministry will take all necessary steps to increase the use of eco-friendly block bricks instead of conventional bricks.

"To this end, coordination will be made with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and other agencies concerned," he said.

Deputy Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Habibun Nahar said the National Adaptation Plan, formulated by Bangladesh to tackle the adverse effects of climate change, would make Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina more acceptable as a climate fighter in the world.

She said Bangladesh would be able to meet the vulnerability of climate change by adopting and implementing medium- and long-term projects as per the plan included in NAP.

Economic Relations Secretary Fatima Yasmin, Planning Secretary Pradeep Ranjan Chakraborty, National Project Director of NAP Preparation Project and Additional Secretary of the ministry (Climate Change) Md Mizanul Hoque Chowdhury and UNDP Bangladesh Resident Representative Sudipta Mukherjee, among others, were present at the discussion with Environment, Forest and Climate Change Secretary Md Mostafa Kamal in the chair.

The draft of NAP was presented by Dr Ainun Nishat, Emeritus Professor, climate specialist, team leader, NAP Formulation Committee, and Malik Fida A Khan, executive director of CEGIS.
