Indian IITM to provide scholarship for public university teachers

DHAKA, Mar 15, 2022 (BSS) - Indian Institute of

Technology Madras (IITM) has expressed its interest to
provide scholarship for the teachers of country's public
universities.

   A three member delegation team of IITM today
expressed the interest today at a view exchange meeting
with the authority of University Grant Commission (UGC)
at UGC office, said a UGC press release.

   During the meeting, they discussed conducting joint
research with Bangladeshi universities, exchanging
faculties, patenting innovation, setting up a satellite
campus of IITM in Bangladesh and doing other
collaborative activities.

   UGC Chairman Dr kazi Shahidullah presided over the
meeting while IITM advisor for Global engagement office
Kartik Raman and Dr Sachin S. Gunthe spoke on the
meeting.

   UGC Chairman called upon the representatives to waive
the tuition fees for public university teachers in
pursuing higher education saying "UGC will bear the rest
of the cost of each student."

   Kartik Raman said IITM has taken a number of
initiatives to expand the opportunities for foreign
students to pursue higher education at the institute.

   Regarding the scholarship, a proposal will be sent to
UGC within one week, he added.

   UGC member Dil Afroza Begum, Dr Md Sajjad Hossen, Dr
Md Alamgir, Professor Biswajit Chand and Professor Abu
Taher, among others, were present on the occasion.
