RU physically challenged student gets bicycle

RAJSHAHI, Feb 27, 2022 (BSS) - A physically challenged female student of
Rajshahi University (RU) has been given a bicycle aimed at making her
mobility unhindered.

Fahima Akter Khushi, a second year honours student in the department of
public administration, expressed her happiness with the noble gesture of the
university authority.

Vice Chancellor Professor Golam Sabbir Sattar accompanied by Pro-vice-
chancellors Professor Chowdhury Jakaria and Professor Sultan-Ul-Islam,
Proctor Professor Asabul Haque and Students Adviser Professor Tareque Nur
handed over the bicycle to the student at the campus today.

The university administration has also launched seat reservation in its
buses for the students with disability to make their mobility smooth
recently.

Five seats have been kept reserved for the physically challenged students
in each bus. The reserved seats were marked with a special sign.

Earlier on December 11 last, the decision had been taken in the meeting of
RU's 509th syndicate. In the meeting, the RU has adopted some other time-
fitting measures to ensure an enabling situation to the students with special
needs aimed at making their academic life easier.

Ramp will be established in the entry points of all academic,
administrative and dormitory buildings side by side with the conventional
stairs.

Besides, seats will be ensured in the ground floors of the dormitories for
the first-year students with physical disabilities on priority basis.

Apart from this, the visually impaired students will get 10 minutes extra
time in examinations. Supportive people will also be ensured for them, RU
sources said.
