Begum Rokeya University observes ‘Shaheed Dibash’

RANGPUR, Feb 21, 2022 (BSS) – The authority of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) observed the ‘Shaheed Dibash and the International Mother Language Day- 2022’ paying rich tribute to the language movement martyrs today.  

Wearing black badges, Vice-chancellor of the university Professor Dr. Md. Hasibur Rashid with Pro Vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Sarifa Salowa Dina placed wreaths at the Shaheed Minar on the campus in the first minute of the day to begin observance of the day.

The Vice-chancellor hoisted the national flag at half-mast on the campus after the sunrise on the campus followed by observance of one-minute silence.

Registrar of the university Engineer Mohammad Alamgir Chowdhury and Director of the Planning and Development Division Md. Osman Gani Talukder were present.

Later, Deans of different faculties, Heads of different departments, leaders of Begum Rokeya University Teachers’ Association and Officers’ Association, students, officials and employees, leaders of students’ organisations placed wreaths there.

A virtual discussion was organized at noon with the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Convener of the International Mother Language Day- 2022’ observance committee Md. Shariful Islam in the chair.

Vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Hasibur Rashid virtually addressed the discussion as the chief guest.

Pro Vice-chancellor Professor Dr. Sarifa Salowa Dina spoke as a special guest.

Associate Professor of the Department of Bengali of the university Dr. Shafikur Rahman presented the keynote essay discussing the enormous importance of the day.

Assistant Professor of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems Md. Ashanuzzaman conducted the discussion also participated by teachers, students, officials and employees of the university.

A milad and doa mehfil were arranged at the Central Mosque of the university after Zohr prayers and special munajats offered seeking eternal peace of departed souls of the martyrs of the great language movement.
