Tipu Munshi outlines future plans of cancer hospital in Rangpur

  RANGPUR, Feb 18, 2022 (BSS) - Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has outlined

future plans of the cancer hospital being constructed at Pirgachha upazila of
Rangpur to reach world standard treatments to cancer patients of Rangpur
region.

   He was addressing a press conference arranged by Rotary Club of Uttara and
Apu Munshi Memorial Trust today at Rangpur Circuit House to inform media
about the 50-bed 'Cancer Hospital Project-Rangpur' as the chief guest.

   President of Rotary Club of Uttara and Dhaka Bureau Chief of the New York-
based global news agency Associated Press (AP) Rotarian Julhas Alam moderated
the event, also participated by members of Rotary Club of Uttara from Dhaka.

   The Minister, also a member of Rotary Club of Uttara, said the Apu Munshi
Memorial Trust is implementing the 50-bed "Cancer Hospital Project-Rangpur"
at Pirgachha upazila in Rangpur.

   Rotary Club Uttara of Dhaka has come forward to cooperate in implementing
the 50-bed "Cancer Hospital Project-Rangpur" construction of which would
require some Taka 100 crore.

   "The cancer hospital will have all modern facilities and equipment needed
for conducting various tests and providing world standard medical treatments
to cancer patients, including women suffering from cervical cancer," he said.

   Besides, field level camps will be arranged in remote and char areas for
conducting cancer tests of the poor for their treatments at the Cancer
Hospital.

  He sought blessings of all people for successful implementation of the 50-
bed "Cancer Hospital Project-Rangpur" to ensure health and medicare services
of people of Rangpur region.

   Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime)
of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Abu Maruf Hossain, Principal of Rangpur
Medical College Professor Dr Bimal Chandra Roy, among others, addressed.

   Responding to a question, the Commerce Minister said that the government
has taken several steps to keep the prices of essential commodities normal.

   "Market monitoring has been strengthened. The Commerce Ministry is working
sincerely so that the consumers are not deceived," he said, adding that
prices of edible oil, sugar and pulses rose due to rising prices of these
commodities in the international markets.

   The government is keeping a close watch on the import of edible oil,
pulses, sugar and onions so that the commodities could be sold at reasonable
prices.

   "If the prices of these essential commodities go up beyond the prices
fixed by the Tariff Commission, stern actions will be taken against the
responsible persons," he added.
