Three more die of Covid-19 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Feb 10, 2022 (BSS) – Three more Covid-19 patients died during the last 24 hours ending at 8 am today in Rangpur division where the pandemic situation is deteriorating in recent weeks.

Health officials said the Covid-19 related casualties are increasing in recent days in the division amid a community spread of the lethal virus.

“With the three more deaths reported from Panchagarh, Lalmonirhat and Gaibandha with one each, the number of casualties reached 1,265 in the division,” Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Abu Md. Zakirul Islam Lenin told BSS today.

The district-wise breakup of the 1,265 fatalities currently stands at 295 in Rangpur, 83 in Panchagarh, 91 in Nilphamari, 71 in Lalmonirhat, 69 in Kurigram, 256 in Thakurgaon, 336 in Dinajpur and 64 in Gaibandha of the division.

The average casualty rate stands at 2.02 percent in the division.

Meanwhile, 233 fresh Covid-19 cases were diagnosed after testing 856 samples at the 27.22 percent positivity rate on Wednesday in the division.

Earlier, the daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 27.07 percent on Tuesday 33.05 percent on Monday, 31.73 percent on Sunday, 36.90 percent on Saturday and 26.10 percent on Friday last in the division.

“With the diagnosis of 233 fresh Covid-19 cases, the total number of infected patients has reached 62,615 in Rangpur division,” Dr. Islam said.   

The district-wise break up of total 62,615 patients include 14,569 in Rangpur, 4,283 in Panchagarh, 5,271 in Nilphamari, 3,154 in Lalmonirhat, 4,901 in Kurigram, 8,475 in Thakurgaon, 16,593 in Dinajpur and 5,369 in Gaibandha in the division.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 3,27,859 collected samples were tested till Wednesday, and of them, 62,615 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 19.10 percent.

At the same time, the number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 56,753 in Rangpur division with the recovery of 261 more patients on Wednesday.

The average recovery rate currently stands at 90.64 percent.      

The 56,753 recovered patients include 12,758 of Rangpur, 3,893 Panchagarh, 4,520 Nilphamari, 2,725 Lalmonirhat, 4,625 Kurigram, 7,832 Thakurgaon, 15,285 in Dinajpur and 5,115 Gaibandha districts in the division.

Among the total 62,615 patients, 98 are under treatments at isolation units, including 15 critical patients at ICU beds and seven at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 56,753 patients and 1,265 deaths while 4,499 are remaining in home isolation.

“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine rose to 1,08,92,560 and among them, 67,43,551 got the second dose and 2,22,440 got the booster dose till Wednesday in the division,” Dr Islam added.

Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. Bimal Chandra Roy said the number of Covid-19 cases is still rising amid a community spread of the deadly virus in Rangpur division.

“Common should sincerely abide by the health directives, hygiene rules and wear face masks while remaining outside to prevent community spread of the lethal virus,” he said.
