Ailing African lioness dies at Bangabandhu Safari Park in Gazipur

  DHAKA, Feb 3, 2022 (BSS) - An African lioness died at Bangabandhu Sheikh

Mujib Safari Park in Gazipur today due to illness at the age of 11.

   On August 11, 2021, the lioness was first diagnosed with disease while
water was seen hanging on its abdomen, said a press release of the
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry.

   After the lioness was diagnosed with physical illness, the veterinary
officers of the park continued providing treatment for its as per the advice
of Dr ABM Shahid Ullah, former curator of Bangladesh National Zoo, Mirpur and
Professor Dr Md Rafiqul Alam, director of Department of Surgery and
Obstetrics at Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Bangladesh Agricultural
University.

   Since then, the lioness had been suffering from various complications,
including breathing problems.

   At about 7.30 am in the morning, like before, the veterinary surgeons of
the park treated the lioness with respiratory problems. Despite receiving
proper medical treatment, the sick lioness died at around 1 pm today, the
release added.
