Norway eyes renewable energy, offshore exploration

DHAKA, Sept 10, 2026 (BSS) - Norwegian Ambassador to Bangladesh Håkon Arald Gulbrandsen today expressed interest in renewable energy, offshore exploration and green investment in Bangladesh.

 “Norway's interest is further deepening relations with Bangladesh in trade, investment and technical cooperation, particularly in offshore renewable energy and green technology,” said the envoy during a courtesy call on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood at his office at the Bangladesh Secretariat here today.

He also expressed his government's interest in exploring further areas of cooperation in these sectors and strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, the minister sought technical and financial cooperation of the Norwegian government for strengthening transparency and improving efficiency in the power sector as well as managing the system losses.

He said Bangladesh welcomes greater participation of the Nordic countries in achieving renewable energy targets and strengthening the country's energy security.

The meeting also explored possibilities of expanding technology transfer, technical training and financial cooperation in line with Bangladesh's renewable energy roadmap.

They also discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation and Norway's ongoing engagement in Bangladesh's clean energy transition, including participation in offshore bidding and investment in renewable energy and solar power sectors.

Deputy Head of Mission of the Norwegian Embassy Alexander Falck-Bilden and Economic and Trade Adviser of the embassy Sayeed Muntasir Bayzid accompanied the ambassador.

Energy Division secretary Md Ziaul Haque and senior officials were present during the meeting.
