Reading aloud has multidimensional significance: Arefin Siddique

DHAKA, Feb 2, 2022 (BSS) - Former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka

University (DU) Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique today said reading
aloud has a multidimensional significance and necessity as it can make
the children aware of wrong pronunciation of any word from their
childhood.

"We see that even after coming to the university, many students
cannot utter with the correct pronunciation. Because no one had helped
them correct their mistakes. The habit of reading aloud can make the
children aware of wrong pronunciation from their childhood," he said.

Professor Arefin, also Chairman of the board of directors of the
national news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), came up with
the remarks while speaking at a webinar, marking the World Read Aloud
Day.

A volunteer organization Read Aloud Bangladesh organized the webinar
with its founder Rupok Singh in the chair, said a press release.

Noting that to make the people understand about anything
beautifully, there is a necessity of speaking melodiously, Dr Arefin
said, "It is the part of institutional education".

He also emphasized on encouraging the children to read aloud.

Additional Secretary of the Technical and Madrasah Education
Division Dr Md Omar Faruque, Additional Secretary of the Liberation
War Affairs Ministry Ranjit Kumar Das, Professor Dr NK Ghosh of
National Child Hospital and Additional Commissioner of Khulna
Metropolitan Police Sarder Rakibul Islam joined the webinar, among
others.

The World Read Aloud Day is celebrated on the first Wednesday of
February every year across the globe.

LitWorld founded the campaign in 2010 to advocate for access to
literacy and diverse stories, as well as the power of reading aloud -
an activity that has an immensely powerful impact on children's
development.
