RANGPUR, August 30, 2026 (BSS) - Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu MP has said that the present government is steadfast in its 'zero tolerance' policy towards all murders. 
 
“After a more detailed investigation, the police will quickly file a charge sheet and exemplary punishment will be given to the killers for the heinous quadruple murders of retired teacher Ganapati Chakraborty, his wife, daughter and son,” he said. 
 
He said this while talking to reporters after visiting the house of slain retired teacher Ganapati Chakraborty, speaking to the relatives of the deceased family and inquiring about them in the Machhuapara area Rangpur city this afternoon. 
 
The minister said, “You (journalists) all know that these murders are horrific murders, and I don't even have the words to condemn it.” 
 
“When I arrived at the house of our teacher Ganapati Chakraborty sir, I realized that the murders had taken place because the killers were drug addicts and bothered our sir, who had prevented them from taking drugs,” he said.
 
He said, “As you (journalists) know, our police administration was able to arrest the two main suspects immediately after the murders took place. The accused also confessed to the murder in court.”
 
At that time, the minister said that the present government has already set an example by completing trials of various recent high-profile murders in the country quickly. 
 
The government has taken the initiative to break the culture of impunity by quickly completing the trials of other sensational cases, including the Lamisa and Nandini murders. 
 
“The government is also viewing the tragic four murders in Rangpur with great importance. The police will file a charge sheet soon and exemplary punishment will be provided for these heinous murders within a short time,” he said.
 
He said the families of the deceased and the people of Rangpur are expecting justice in this murder. The law enforcement agencies have already made progress in the investigation, he added.  
 
“We hope that the real mystery of the incident will be revealed in a very short time and the criminals will be brought to justice," he said.
 
During the visit, the minister visited various aspects of the crime scene and spoke to the officers involved in the investigation. 
  
Talking to BSS on the spot, a number of local people and observers said that they are seeing the minister's visit to the house of slain teacher Ganapati Chakraborty as part of the government's commitment to the deceased family and ensuring justice. 
 
They also hoped that the investigation will be completed quickly and those responsible will be brought to justice.
 
Rangpur District Council Administrator Md Saiful Islam, Rangpur Development Authority Chairman Md Samsuzzaman Samu, Deputy Commissioner Israt Jahan and officials of the district and police administrations were present at the time. 
 
Earlier, retired teacher of Rangpur Zilla School Ganapati Chakraborty Jewel, 65, his wife Pritilata Chakraborty Bhola, 50, daughter Agami Chakraborty Prarthi, 25 and son Ayush Chakraborty Priyam, 12, were strangled to death at home more than a week ago.
  
Gopinath Chakraborty, elder brother of the deceased Ganapati Chakraborty Jewel, filed a murder case with Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali police station on Sunday in this incident.
 
A  DB Police team of Rangpur Metropolitan Police arrested two suspected killers Mugdha Das, 23, son of Kanu Das and Siddhartha Das, 19, son of Binoy Das of the Machhuapara area on Sunday.
 
They gave confessional statements the same night under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure before Rangpur Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Md Rafiqul Islam over the quadruple murders.
