RAJSHAHI, Aug 29, 2026 (BSS)- Chairman of the University Grants Commission  (UGC) Professor Mamun Ahmed has said the students must develop a sense of goodness among themselves along with acquiring knowledge.

“The students will strive to build themselves as the architects of a prosperous, developed Bangladesh in the coming days. The nation wants to see the future of Bangladesh among the students.”

UGC Chairman Professor Mamun Ahmed came up with the remarks today while addressing the orientation ceremony for students admitted to undergraduate (honours) programs for the 2025-2026 academic session of Rajshahi University (RU) as chief guest.

The colourful event was held at RU Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium.

He further said that one of the main objectives of education is the development of human values.
Besides, he expressed hope that the journey of showcasing their talent and fulfilling their dreams that has begun through admission to the university will continue in future.

Presided over by RU Vice-chancellor Professor Faridul Islam, the orientation was addressed by Pro-Vice Chancellors Professor Abdul Alim and Professor Mamunur Rashid.
 
Students’ adviser Professor A H M Khurshid Alam delivered the welcome speech at the event. Among others, Proctor Professor Md. Mahbubur Rahman also spoke.

Welcoming the new students of RU, Vice-Chancellor Professor Faridul Islam said that from today they are the brand ambassadors of this university.
 
As a stakeholder, they will uphold RU, and it is their responsibility to present this university in a positive way.
 
This arena of higher education is the cradle of freedom and free thought. However, this freedom is not unlimited.
 
He expressed hope that students will reflect responsibility positively in their work and in their behaviour.

Professor Abdul Alim said in his speech that the university authorities are working with the goal of bringing session jam to zero as one of its main objectives.
 
Along with that, efforts are being made to maintain the reputation and international ranking of the university by giving top priority to education and research.
 
“We are also working on plans for improving the quality of education and some other issues. Students will notice the benefits of these in future.”
 
Later, the orientation programme ended with a cultural program.
