Covid-19 cases climbs to 59,817 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Feb 1, 2022 (BSS) - The number of Covid-19 cases climbed to
59,817 with the diagnosis of 399 new patients on Monday in the division where
the pandemic situation continues deteriorating rapidly.

   Health officials said the 399 new patients were diagnosed after testing
953 samples at 41.87 percent positivity rate on Monday amid a hastily rising
number of positive cases in recent weeks.

   Earlier, the daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 41.82 percent on Sunday,
53.31 percent on Saturday, 25.41 percent on Friday, 46.45 percent on
Thursday, 45 percent on Wednesday and 39.72 percent on Tuesday last in the
division.

   On Monday, Rangpur recorded 44.60 percent Covid-19 positivity rate,
Panchagarh 39.70 percent, Nilphamari 43.30 percent, Lalmonirhat 33 percent,
Kurigram 36.80 percent, Thakurgaon 41.60 percent, Dinajpur 40 percent and
Gaibandha 49.20 percent.  The district-wise break up of total 59,817 patients
include 13,673 of Rangpur, 4,085 Panchagarh, 4,932 of Nilphamari, 2,980 of
Lalmonirhat, 4,782 of Kurigram, 8,208 of Thakurgaon, 15,994 of Dinajpur and
5,163 of Gaibandha in the division.

   "Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 related casualties remained steady at
1,257 as no more infected patients died on Monday," Divisional Director
(Health) Dr. Abu Md. Zakirul Islam told BSS today.

   The average casualty rate stands at 2.10 percent in the division.

   The district-wise break up of the 1,257 fatalities stands at 295 in
Rangpur, 81 in Panchagarh, 89 in Nilphamari, 70 in Lalmonirhat, 69 in
Kurigram, 256 in Thakurgaon, 334 in Dinajpur and 63 in Gaibandha of the
division.

   "Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 3,20,063 collected samples
were tested till Monday, and of them, 59,817 were found Covid-19 positive
with an average infection rate of 18.69 percent in the division," Dr Islam
said.

   Meanwhile, the number of healed Covid-19 patients reached 54,956 with the
recovery of 94 more patients on Monday in the division. The average recovery
rate stands at 91.87 percent.

   

 

   The 54,956 recovered patients include 12,390 of Rangpur, 3,776 of
Panchagarh, 4,400 of Nilphamari, 2,696 of Lalmonirhat, 4,537 of Kurigram,
7,574 of Thakurgaon, 14,712 in Dinajpur and 4,871 Gaibandha districts in the
division.

   Among the 59,817 patients, 108 are under treatment at isolation units,
including 15 critical patients at ICU beds and seven at High Dependency Unit
beds, after recovery of 54,956 patients and 1,257 deaths while 3,496 are
remaining in home isolation.

   "In the meantime, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the
Covid-19 vaccine rose to 1,07,83,500, and among them, 65,01,498 got the
second dose and 1,56,147 got the booster dose of the jabs till Monday in the
division," Dr Islam added.

  Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Prof. Dr. Bimal Chandra Roy stressed
abiding by the health directives by everyone to contain community spread of
the deadly virus and remain safe.
