DHAKA, Jan 8, 2021 (BSS) - Dr Hironmoy Sen Gupta, a retired professor of Dhaka University's Physics Department, died of old-age complications at a hospital in the capital today.

   He was 88, chairman of Physics Department Prof ABM Obaidul Islam told BSS.

  The professor breathed his last early today around 1.30am while undergoing treatment at BIRDEM General Hospital.

   He left behind his wife, two sons, friends, relatives and a host of well wishers and admirers to mourn his death.

   His body was taken to the premises of University's Jagannath hall to let his colleagues and students pay their last tribute to the professor around 12pm. Then, his body was also taken to the premises of Physics Department around 1pm.

   Later, Dr. Hironmoy Sen Gupta was cremated in the city's Postogola cremation ground this evening, said Obaidul citing family sources.

   Meanwhile, Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman expressed deep shock at the death of Dr Sen Gupta.

   He also prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
