TANGAIL, Jan 2, 2022 (BSS) – Agriculture Minister Md Abdur Razzaque today said a creditable Election Commission (EC) will be formed and it will ensure a level playing field for all during the polls.

“Everyone will have confidence in Election Commission (EC) and it will create a level playing field for all,” he said.

The minister was speaking at a seminar at Shahid Smriti Municipal Park in Tangail as the chief guest, a press release said.

The event was organized by the district administration, district social service office and voluntary organizations on the occasion of National Social Service Day.

During the election, the EC will control everything including the army, law enforcement agencies and administration, he said, adding that the EC will make necessary arrangements for holding free, fair and impartial elections in the country independently and neutrally.
“Therefore, if any party does not participate in the elections, it is their responsibility,” he added.

He urged all concerned to apply suitable laws to prevent irregularities and corruption in providing government allowances to people, including elderly persons, widows, disabled and other backward ones, of the country if needed.

Referring to this year’s theme of National Social Service Day ‘Mujib Borsho er Sofolota, Ghorei Paben Sokol Vata’, the minister said: “Irregularities and corruption cannot be allowed in the payment of the government allowances. Proper law must be enforced with an iron hand in dealing with the payment and withdrawal of these allowances.”

Razzaque, also the Awami League presidium member, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is implementing a comprehensive program for the welfare of the elderly people, widows, disabled and other backward people of the country.

With Tangail Deputy Commissioner Dr. Md. Ataul Gani in the chair, the programme was attended, among others, by advocate Zoaherul Islam, Superintendent of Police Md Kaiser, Civil Surgeon AFM Sahabuddin Khan, Deputy Director of District Social Services Md Shah Alam, Municipal Mayor SM Sirajul Haque and Sadar Upazila Chairman Shahjahan Anchari.

Later, cheques were distributed among 227 people and wheelchairs were provided to 20 others.
