BNP expresses regret over public inconvenience during Tarique Rahman’s return reception

DHAKA, Dec 26, 2025 (BSS) - BNP has expressed sincere regret over the inconvenience and suffering caused to the general people due to the massive gathering during the return and reception of the party’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman after 17 years in exile.

It described the disruption to normal life in the capital due to the massive turnout as ‘unintended’, according to a BNP press release signed by BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today.

It said BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman returned home with his family on Thursday after 17 years. To welcome him, hundreds of thousands of people from across the country gathered in Dhaka, effectively turning the capital into a sea of people, said BNP in the press release.

BNP said it was deeply concerned that the huge gathering caused hardship and inconvenience to normal public life, and expressed its heartfelt apologies for the unintended suffering and disruption.

"BNP sincerely apologizes for this unexpected hardship and inconvenience," it added.
