DHAKA, May 14, 2026 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon has said a stable and democratic environment has been established in the country following free, fair, and impartial elections.
"This has increased the confidence of foreign investors, and Bangladesh is now emerging as a promising investment destination," he said.
Swapon made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the 'Novo Group Investor Meet 2026' held at a hotel in the capital.
Ambassadors from different countries, foreign diplomats, local and foreign business leaders, and investors attended the event.
He said Bangladesh's major strength lies in its large population and young workforce, adding that the country can become a major global hub for production and investment by utilising this advantage.
The minister said the RMG sector remains the country's main source of export earnings. Alongside garments and leather, he highlighted investment opportunities in home textiles, handicrafts, fisheries and agricultural products.
The minister noted that foreign investment in these sectors would further strengthen the country's economy.
Swapon also said the southern region has significant investment potential. He noted that Bhola has vast energy resources, while Payra Port, coastal areas along the Bay of Bengal and the tourism sector would play an important role in future economic growth.
He said Bangladesh would move forward through political stability, a production-friendly environment and international partnerships, and stressed the need for stronger cooperation with friendly countries.
"The government stands beside local and foreign entrepreneurs interested in investing in Bangladesh. We are continuing our efforts to further expand partnerships in the national interest," he said.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Bangladesh Nguyen Manh Cuong and Ambassador of Kosovo to Bangladesh Lulzim Pllana were also present at the programme, among others.
