University degrees not only to get job but also to contribute to the society: Abrar

RAJSHAHI, Dec 17, 2025 (BSS) - Adviser to the Education Ministry Professor 
Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar has said university degrees are not only to get jobs 
but also to contribute to society.

"Real value of education is not only for achieving success but also to take 
the society forward," he added, while presiding over the 12th convocation of 
Rajshahi University (RU) on its campus here today.
 
The Education Adviser reminded the students that Bangladesh needs such types 
of successful graduates who will not only flourish in professionalism but 
their success also will influence the society positively.
 
"We want such types of responsible citizens who will stand against 
corruption, enhance institutional strength and lead the society honestly," he 
added. 

Education Adviser Professor Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar also said there is an 
urgent need of more responsible citizens to bring positive change in the 
society. "Education is not only for building careers but also for ensuring 
justice and equity in the society," he reminded. 

He said knowledge is power and it must be used for building humanity in the 
society with sincerity and honesty.

The RU today held its 12th convocation on the university stadium ground in a 
festive atmosphere after a gap of five years.
 
Around 6,000 graduates from the 60th, 61st and 62nd batches of the university 
took part in the convocation, wearing academic gowns and caps.
 
The convocation rally began at 9.30am with the participation of members of 
the senate, syndicate and academic council, along with faculty deans.
 
Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Professor SMA Faiz 
addressed the programme as the convocation speaker.

As chair of the convocation, Professor Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar formally 
conferred degrees as the faculty deans presented graduates from their 
respective faculties one by one.
