Bangladesh mission in Mauritius opens condolence book

DHAKA, Dec 31, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh High Commission in Mauritius opened a condolence book in Port Louis today as global leaders and diplomats paid tribute to former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

Following the death of the three-time prime minister, the condolence book was opened at the Bangladesh High Commission in Port Louis from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on December 31 to express deep respect for her memory.

President of the Republic of Mauritius Dharambeer Gokhool and Vice-President Jean Yvan Robert Hungley were among the dignitaries who paid tribute by signing the condolence book. 

Mauritius's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade Dhananjay Ramful also expressed condolences.

Several foreign diplomats, including ambassadors, high commissioners and senior mission officials stationed in Mauritius, signed the book to honour the late Bangladeshi leader. 

Members of the diplomatic corps from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Egypt, Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Madagascar and South Africa were among those who paid their respects.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to Mauritius Zokey Ahad said the condolence messages would be preserved in the official records of the High Commission.

Officials of the Bangladesh High Commission and members of the Bangladeshi community in Mauritius were also present, reflecting the deep sense of respect and shared mourning for Begum Khaleda Zia across nations.
