RU holds peer to peer orientation learning session

RAJSHAHI, Nov 26, 2025 (BSS)- Rajshahi University (RU) held "Peer to Peer 
Orientation Learning Session on Social Emotional Wellbeing (SEW)" today aims 
at sensitizing its students and others concerned on promoting overall mental 
wellness and prevent the onset or worsening of mental health issues. 
 
Aims and objectives of the event held at Kazi Nazrul Islam auditorium was to 
enhance participants' understanding and skills related to managing emotions, 
building positive relationships, and promoting overall mental health through 
shared experiences and mutual support. 

Vice-chancellor (VC) of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology 
Professor SM Abdur Razzaque presided over the meeting while Member of 
University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof Masuma Habib and RU Pro-VC Prof 
Mayeen Uddin addressed it as the chief and special guests respectively.

UGC Director Jeshmin Parveen, UNESCO Programme Officer Raju Das, Director of 
RU Career Counseling and Development Centre (CCDC) Prof Nurul Momen and its 
Assistant Director Prof Adil Hassan Chowdhury also spoke.

Prof Murshida Ferdous Binte Habib of the Department of Psychology, CCDC 
Assistant Director Prof Gulbar Hossain and Associate Prof Syed Tanveer Rahman 
from the Department of Psychology at Dhaka University (DU) conducted the 
training sessions as resource persons disseminating their expertise on the 
issue.

The sessions not only benefit those seeking support but also enhance the 
self-esteem and skills of the peer supporters themselves, making it a 
mutually beneficial learning experience.

Prof Masuma Habib said the SEW creates a safe, non-judgmental environment 
where individuals can openly discuss social and emotional challenges.

It fosters social connectedness and a sense of belonging among participants, 
thereby reducing feelings of isolation.

It also promotes overall mental wellness and prevents the onset or worsening 
of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression etc.
