Ihsanul Karim was honest, courageous journalist: Speakers

DHAKA, March 25, 2024 (BSS) - Leading journalists and leaders of different journalists' bodies at a memorial meeting today said Prime Minister's late press secretary and valiant freedom fighter Ihsanul Karim was an honest and courageous journalist who never compromised with the spirit of Liberation War.

They were addressing in a memorial meeting on journalist Ihsanul Karim at Jatiya Press Club here.

Indian Institute of Mass Communication Alumni Association (IIMCAA), Bangladesh arranged the meeting with its acting president Azizul Islam Bhuiyan in the chair.

Jatiya Press Club (JPC) President Farida Yasmin, MP, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Managing Director and Chief Editor Abul Kalam Azad, BFUJ-Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists President and BSS Chief News Editor Omar Faruque, and JPC General Secretary Shyamal Dutta, BSS Managing Editor Anisur Rahman, BSS Chief News Editor (Bangla) Samir Kanti Barua, BSS former Managing Editor Manoj Kanti Roy and Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) former President Md Shafiqul Karim addressed the meeting.

Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust Managing Director Shubash Chanda (Badol), Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) President Sohel Haider Chowdhury, Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) President Nurul Islam Hasib, Senior member of IIMCAA's Bangladesh chapter Farid Hossain and its general secretary Zahid Newaz Khan, Ihsanul Karim's son Moyeen Karim and his cousin Konka Karim also spoke.

Executive member of IIMCAA, Bangladesh chapter Nazrul Islam read out the message of condolence of the central unit of IIMCAA on the occasion while ATN News senior news editor and IIMCAA, Bangladesh chapter member Gani Adam moderated the meeting.

The speakers said Ihsanul Karim was not only a veteran journalist but also a good person. They said Ihsanul Karim's death is an irreparable loss to the journalist community.

Imbued with the spirit of Liberation War, Ihsanul Karim never compromised with journalistic ethics in his long 52 years' career, they said.

Ihsanul Karim was first student from Bangladesh to get scholarship of IIMC in New Delhi in 1979. He was founding president of the IIMCAA's Bangladesh chapter.
