SAVAR, April 28, 2024 (BSS) - Fisheries and Livestock Minister Md Abdur Rahman today said that there is no plan to import sacrificial animals on the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha as the government is trying to reinforce the domestic farmers to increase the meat production in the country.

"The government is working to increase meat production by encouraging and reinforcing domestic farmers. We are also trying to keep meat prices within the purchasing capacity of the people," he said.

The minister said this while addressing the orientation programme of the newly appointed livestock and fisheries officers (cadre) under the 41st BCS examination at the BCS Livestock Academy Auditorium here on the outskirts of the capital.

Noting that ensuring healthcare services for livestock is still a challenge, Rahman said the government is working to develop veterinary hospitals across the country.

Livestock and Fisheries Secretary Md Selim Uddin spoke at the function, among others, with Department of Livestock Services (DLS) Director General Dr Md Reajul Huq in the chair.
