DHAKA, April 29, 2024 (BSS) - The High Court today formed a high-level committee to give state recognition to the 'resistance fighters' who protested the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with most of his family members in 1975.
 
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque passed the order, forming the four-member committee led by the secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.
 
The other members of the committee are- secretaries of the Ministry of Home, the Ministry of Social Welfare and the Ministry of Finance.
 
The court in its order also asked the committee to submit its report on August 4.
 
"Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members and close relatives were brutally killed on August 15, 1975. Then junta government banned all kinds of processions and rallies after the incident. In spite of this, protests were held and armed resistance was raised in places like Netrokona, Kishoreganj, Narsingdi, Khulna, Chandpur and Mymensingh. Thousands of youths, students, and Freedom Fighters loyal to Father of the Nation joined these resistance forces and kept protesting the killing of Bangabandhu," said Advocate Bakir Uddin Bhuiyan, who moved a writ petition filed in this regard.
 
The lawyer said six of such brave resistance fighters filed the writ in 2022 as state recognition was not given to those brave fighters in long 47 years after the killing.
 
"The High Court after holding primary hearing on the matter, had issued a rule on August 7, 2022. It came up with today's order after holding final hearing on the rule," Advocate Bhuiyan added.
