DHAKA, Dec 27, 2022 (BSS) - Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen today said country's civil society needs to aid the government's efforts to create a mass awareness from grassroots level for ensuring equal rights for woman through breaking the wall of social taboos.

He made the remark while speaking at a discussion titled "National sharing on civil society led CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women) Alternative Report 2022" organized by Bangladesh Mohila Parishad at CIRDAP auditorium here.

The foreign minister said the Bangladesh government has been working relentlessly to create equal opportunities for male and female, to ensure women's political social, economic empowerment and to establish legal rights for woman.

"We have taken different time befitting steps to include womenfolk into the country's development mainstream as it is not possible to achieve sustainable development keeping half of the population legged," he said.
 
Later talking with reporters, the foreign minister lauded today's government's decision to observe December 30 as the National Expatriates Day.

Momen said the current government wants to honor expatriate Bangladeshis in every possible way and ease their sufferings at home and abroad.
