EC starts appeal hearings on nominations

DHAKA, Jan 10, 2026 (BSS) – The Election Commission (EC) today began hearing of appeals filed against the decisions of returning officers on the acceptance and rejection of nomination papers for the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.

The appeal hearings are being held from 10 am to 5 pm at the Election Commission auditorium located on the basement-2 of the Election Building in the capital’s Agargaon. 

The full commission is conducting the hearings.

Election Commission’s Director (Public Relations) and Information Officer Md Ruhul Amin Mallik told BSS that the appeal hearings started at the EC this morning and will continue until January 18.

The hearings of appeals numbered from 1 to 70 are scheduled for today.

On Sunday appeals numbered from 71 to 140 will be heard, while on January 12, appeals numbered from 141 to 210 will be taken up. On January 13, hearings will be held for appeals numbered from 211 to 280.

The dates for the subsequent appeal hearings will be announced shortly.

A total of 645 appeals have been filed with the Election Commission against the decisions of returning officers over scrutiny of nomination papers for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.

On January 4, the last day of scrutiny, returning officers and assistant returning officers in 300 constituencies declared the nomination papers of 1,842 candidates valid and rejected the candidacy of 723 aspirants out of a total of 2,568 nomination papers submitted for the parliamentary election.
