DHAKA, Nov 26, 2025 (BSS) - Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has confirmed that the government has appointed Superintendents of Police (SPs) to all 64 districts through a lottery-based system, introduced as part of the election-time administrative arrangements.

“Yes, the news is accurate. The lottery was conducted exactly as planned. We created three categories—A, B, and C—not based on district size, but on the prevailing law-and-order situation,” he said.

Speaking to reporters after attending a review meeting on the Ministry of Agriculture’s Annual Development Programme at the Secretariat, the adviser also said that no qualified officers were excluded during the selection process.

The Home Ministry issued a gazette notification today announcing the new postings.

He explained that after categorizing districts according to risk levels, officers were assigned accordingly.

When asked whether the same system would be used for officer-in-charge (OC) postings, the adviser responded, “Insha’Allah,” adding that the authorities were prioritizing the most capable officers for these critical positions.
