RANGPUR, Jan 24, 2026 (BSS) - A training workshop on 'Preventing misreporting
in the media and presenting objective news' was held on the occasion of the
upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Elections in Rangpur on Saturday.
Bangladesh Press Council (BPC) organised this workshop in collaboration with
the Rangpur district administration for local journalists at the Rangpur
Circuit House conference room in the city.
BPC Chairman Justice AKM Abdul Hakim attended the workshop as the chief guest
with Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan in the chair.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Majid Ali and Director of the
Divisional Information Office Dr Md Mofakkharul Iqbal delivered speeches as
special guests at the workshop.
Speaking as the chief guest at the workshop, BPC Chairman Justice AKM Abdul
Hakim said that media workers should be aware of their rights and everyone
should be united to realize their rights.
"In the past, they could not realize rights due to lack of unity. Even if
there is personal support for any political party, one should not work
professionally for a political party," he said.
Justice AKM Abdul Hakim discussed various topics at the workshop.
The topics included: what media workers should do in practicing responsible
journalism in the upcoming JS elections, the Election Policy 2025 for media
workers, the Code of Conduct for Journalists-1993 (Amended 2002), relevant
sections of the Bangladesh Labor Act, 2006 on journalism, the Bangladesh
Welfare Trust Act, 2014 and the Right to Information Act, 2009.
Speaking as the resource person at the workshop, BPC Secretary (Deputy
Secretary) Md Abdus Sabur said journalism is one of the respected professions
in the country like across the globe.
"Therefore, there is no alternative to ethics in this profession. Even though
there are risks in journalism, one must always strive to publish objective
news.
Regarding the things journalists should do in the upcoming elections, he said
that media workers have an important role in motivating people to vote
spontaneously in the 13th JS polls.
Fifty-two media workers working in various media outlets in Rangpur
participated in this day-long training workshop.
