SHERPUR, Jan 26, 2026 (BSS) - A training workshop on the guidelines of mother and child support programmes was held at Sherpur municipality on Monday.
The workshop was organised under the project titled “Supporting Implementation of the Mother and Child Benefit Programme”, implemented by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs in the fiscal year 2025–26.
Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs Mohammad Iftekhar Hossain joined the programme virtually as the chief guest.
The programme was chaired by Sherpur Municipality Administrator Arifa Siddique, while Mohammad Lutful Kabir, Deputy Director of the District Women’s Affairs Department, delivered the welcome speech.
Among others, Municipality Chief Executive Officer Farzana Akhter Bobby, social worker Razia Samad Dalia, General Secretary of Sherpur Press Club Masud Hasan Badal, Municipal Executive Officer Abu Layes Md Bazlul Karim, and several other officials spoke at the event.
Speakers at the workshop discussed effective measures to enhance publicity of the allowance payment system, reduce difficulties faced by applicants, ensure the selection of genuinely poor beneficiaries, and simplify the overall beneficiary selection process.
The workshop was informed that around 35,000 pregnant mothers and children in the district are currently receiving allowances under the programme.
