KUSHTIA, Jan 21, 2026 (BSS) - Food and Land Adviser Ali Imam Majumdar today said that the future of Bangladesh depends on voters giving a ‘yes’ in the referendum.

“You are the owners of the country, and it is up to you to decide who will run it and how to run. The future of the country depends on it,” he said.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at a discussion meeting held at the Collectorate in Kushtia to promote ‘Yes vote’ in the referendum and encourage voters’ participation.

Adviser Majumdar stressed that while candidates have the right to approach voters, it is the citizens’ right to decide whom to vote for.

He said officials under the Election Commission, including the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, will ensure that no one obstructs this right. “You will cast your vote freely. You may mark your ballot as you wish, and no one can prevent you,” he added.

He further noted that the sacrifices of those who took part in the July mass uprising are undeniable. The youths aspired to run the country in a new way, beyond conventional political frameworks.
Kushtia Deputy Commissioner Md. Iqbal Hossain presided over the meeting.

District Police Superintendent Mohammad Jasim Uddin, district information officer, and the district election officer also spoke at the meeting, among others, a PID handout said.
