DHAKA, Jan 19, 2026 (BSS) - Land Adviser Ali Imam Majumdar today urged the land owners to pay land development tax regularly and voluntarily saying this tax is one of the state’s most important and reliable sources of revenue.
“Through this tax, the government gets the opportunity to ensure regular and stable financing for various development activities at both local and national levels,” he said.
Majumdar was speaking as the chief guest at a workshop on “Determining measures for collection of land development tax” at the conference room of Bhumi Bhaban in the capital.
Senior Secretary of Land Ministry ASM Saleh Ahmed, Land Appeal Board Chairman Mohammad Yusuf and Land record and Survey Department Director General Dr. Md Mahmud Hasan also spoke as the special guests.
Land Reforms Board Chairman AJM Salahuddin Nagari presented the keynote paper at the workshop.
The land adviser said the revenue collected from land development tax is spent on multifaceted public welfare activities, including road and transport development, education and healthcare, irrigation systems, and rural infrastructure.
The taxes paid by citizens ultimately return to the people in the form of public welfare, he said.
The adviser said that proper collection of land development tax strengthens the national economy and plays an important role in implementing development plans.
He said with the introduction of digital land services, the rate of land development tax payment has been increasing steadily every year.
“Although there were some technical issues in the online system in the initial stages, it is now possible to pay land development tax entirely online. This has reduced harassment on the one hand and increased public interest and awareness about tax payment on the other,” he said.
The adviser said negligence by institutions in paying their respective taxes harms state revenue and sends a negative message to the society.
