DHAKA, Sept 3, 2026 (BSS): The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) today fined an unnamed establishment Tk 50,000 for producing sweets including sweetmeat, roshogolla and sandesh in an unhygienic and dirty environment in the capital’s Mirpur and supplying them to reputed sweet shops.

The fine was imposed during a mobile court drive conducted at E-1, Eastern Housing area in Mirpur today.

According to a BSTI press release, the establishment had been producing, selling and marketing different types of sweets without obtaining any BSTI standard certificate or license. During the drive, BSTI officials found sweets being produced in an unhygienic environment.

The investigation found that sweets produced at the establishment were supplied to Bikrampur Mistanna Bhandar, Navy Muslim Sweets, Roser Hari and various sweet shops in the Kalshi Mor area.

BSTI said consumers often buy sweets from reputed branded shops without knowing where, in what environment and how the products were manufactured. Supplying food products produced in unhygienic conditions in this manner is a matter of concern for public health, it added.

A mobile court led by BSTI Executive Magistrate Md Mahbubul Islam, with assistance from APBn-11, fined the establishment Tk 50,000 under Section 31 of the BSTI Act, 2018, as a warning measure. The fine was subsequently realised.

The establishment was also instructed to improve its standards immediately, obtain BSTI standard certification and product packaging registration certificates, and market only approved products.

BSTI Field Officer (CM) Nur Jahan and Examiner (Metrology) Shikhan Saha served as prosecutors during the drive.
