KHULNA, Sept 2, 2026 (BSS) - A court in Khulna today sentenced a young man to life imprisonment for raping a child. Judge of the Khulna Metropolitan Child Violence Prevention Tribunal Md Akram Hossain pronounced the verdict in the presence of the convict. Court bench assistant Iqbal Mahmud confirmed the matter.

The convict, Sabuj Khan, son of Keramat Ali of Palpara Kopar Bill Hasan Khan Road in Daulatpur, was also fined Tk 20,000. In default of payment, he will have to serve an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment.

According to court sources, the victim, a second-grade student of Madhyadanga Government Primary School, was taken inside Sabuj's house around 3:45pm on July 7, 2024, on the pretext of showing her a chicken. Sabuj then raped the child and threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the incident to anyone.

The following day, the victim's mother filed a case against Sabuj with Daulatpur Police Station under Section 9(1) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000 (amended in 2020).

Investigation Officer Diba Kumar Mridha submitted a charge sheet against Sabuj Khan before the court on August 13, 2025. The tribunal framed charges against him on April 1, 2026.

After examining the evidence and witnesses, the court found Sabuj guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment today.
