DHAKA, July 27, 2026 (BSS) – The prosecution of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today filed a formal charge in crimes against humanity case over the May 5, 2013, crackdown on a Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh rally at the capital's ‘Shapla Chattar’, alleging that around 60 people were killed in the operation across the country.
 
 
The formal charge was submitted to the office of the ICT Registrar this morning, accusing 41 people, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former inspector general of police, and former director general of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), of crimes against humanity.
 
 
The ICT probe body filed the draft investigation report in the case recently.

Confirming the development to reporters, ICT Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam on July 19 had said the report will now undergo a final review and verification to ensure a transparent trial based on a sound investigation report.
 
 
Md Aminul Islam also added that they had received a list of 61 victims of the government crackdown carried out in connection with the Hefazat-e-Islam rally across the country, and the tribunal's investigation agency has so far identified 58 of them.
