CHATTOGRAM, Aug 20, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced Md. Abdullah, a former member of Teknaf Sadar Union Parishad in Cox's Bazar, to four years in prison for illegally acquiring wealth.
In the same case, his father, Abul Bashar, was sentenced to three years in prison for assisting his son in illegally acquiring wealth.
The verdict was delivered by Chattogram Divisional Special Judge Md. Mizanur Rahman in absentia of the two convicts.
According to the prosecution, an Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigation found that Abdullah possessed movable and immovable assets worth Tk 1,10,23,065, while his legitimate income was only Tk 10 lakh.
Thus, assets worth Tk 1,00,23,065 were found to be inconsistent with his known income. Additionally, Abul Bashar sold a piece of land to his son Abdullah for Tk 20 lakh on November 2, 2016, three months after purchasing it. The ACC alleged that the transaction was an attempt by the father and son, acting in collusion, to legitimise their illegal assets.
The ACC initiated an investigation into Abdullah in 2017, leading to the filing of a case at its Integrated District Office in Chattogram on August 10, 2020.
