Husband sentenced to death for killing wife over dowry in Feni

FENI, Aug 20, 2026 (BSS) – A court here today sentenced a man to death and fined him TK two  lakh for killing his wife over dowry in Daganbhuiyan upazila in 2018.

Judge ANM Morshed Khan of the Feni Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal pronounced the verdict this afternoon.

The convict, Ekramul Haque Chuttu, son of late Syed Ahang of Malek Master Bari in North Jaylaskar, was also sentenced to two more  years’ imprisonment in default of payment of the fine, a court official said.

The court acquitted five other accused of the charges,  brought against them could not be found proved .

According to the prosecution, Ekramul married Arjina Akter of Dharmapur in the same upazila on January 11, 2018. At the time of marriage, goods worth about TK two lakh  and three bhori of gold were given to him.

Later, Ekramul allegedly tortured Arjina and demanded an additional amount of TK three  3 lakh as dowry. Arjina was killed at North Jaylaskar on August 27, 2018.

Her maternal uncle filed a case with Daganbhuiyan Police Station against six people, implicating Ekramul as the prime accused.

The court convicted Ekramul under Section 11(A) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000.

 Ekramul had been absconding since the filing of the case.

Public Prosecutor Advocate Shahab Uddin said the victim's family had received justice through this verdict.
